Privacy policy
Effective date: 9 September 2026 · Applies to Farooq Chat Viewer 2.0.3 and these dedicated information pages.
How Farooq Chat Viewer handles your files, settings, optional online actions and support messages.
Who is responsible
Farooq Chat Viewer is developed and published by FAROOQ MUGHAL (SMC-PRIVATE) LIMITED (Mohammad Farooq), Sargodha, Pakistan (SECP CUIN 0357349). Privacy questions and requests can be sent to support@farooqmughal.net.
Files and settings on your computer
The app reads the local chat-export folders or ZIP archives you choose, including transcripts, sender names, timestamps and saved attachments. Normal reading, media inspection and text search run on your computer. This version has no app account, WhatsApp login, archive-upload backend, advertising SDK or app analytics service.
Reading does not alter your original transcript or media files. ZIP import writes an extracted copy to a new destination folder; an unsuccessful import may clean up its newly created partial folder. Save writes a separate copy. The viewer does not encrypt your exports.
Windows app preferences store the remembered library path, theme, language, date-order preferences and your selected “Me” sender. Library information, search indexes and loaded preview data are held in memory while in use. The library is reopened automatically at startup until you disconnect it or choose another folder.
Actions that involve other services
| Action you choose | What happens |
|---|---|
| Load online preview | The app fetches the linked page and, where available, its preview image. The destination sites receive the requested URL, IP address and ordinary connection/request information. Preview data is held in memory. Links are not prefetched automatically. |
| Open a web link | Your browser contacts the destination. Its privacy policy and browser settings apply. |
| Share, Copy, Save or open a file | The content you choose is passed to Windows, the clipboard, a destination folder or another application. Clipboard history/sync and destination-app handling follow your settings and those providers' policies. |
| Use a cloud-synced archive folder | Your storage provider may download or synchronize the files. The viewer does not operate the cloud service. |
| Install through Microsoft Store | Microsoft handles acquisition, delivery, updates and any platform diagnostics under its own policies. |
We do not sell chat content or upload archives automatically. Information intentionally shared with a third-party application or website is controlled by that recipient.
Support messages
If you email support, we receive your email address, message and any files you choose to attach. We use these to investigate the request, reply, fix defects and maintain necessary support records. No archive is attached automatically. Please provide only the minimum information needed and use redacted or fictional examples.
Support email is handled through our e-mail provider and may be stored or processed in countries where the provider operates. Access is limited to the publisher and the service providers needed to handle the request. We retain correspondence only as reasonably needed for support, follow-up, security and applicable legal obligations; you may request deletion. Any legally required records or provider backup retention may remain for the applicable period.
These website pages
These dedicated pages contain no built-in analytics scripts, advertising tags, tracking cookies, embedded social widgets or third-party fonts other than the web font used across farooqmughal.net. Your visit still sends ordinary connection information to the website hosting provider, which may keep access and security logs. The pages contain links to email, GitHub, the Microsoft Store and other company pages; following them brings you under those services' policies.
Your choices and requests
- Use Disconnect folder to clear the remembered library connection. This does not delete exported files or necessarily erase all other preferences.
- Use Windows app reset, where offered, to clear app preferences, or remove app-specific preference data. Keep archives outside application-data folders before a reset or uninstall. Contact support if you need help locating settings.
- Delete exports and saved copies yourself using Windows when you no longer need them. Manage cloud copies and backups with their storage provider.
- Avoid online preview, link and sharing actions if you do not want to contact their destinations.
- Email support to request access, correction or deletion of information you sent us. Depending on applicable law, you may also have rights to restrict or object to processing, portability, withdraw consent where relevant, and complain to a data-protection authority. We may need proportionate verification before acting.
We cannot access or remotely delete archives held only on your device. Processing you initiate in the viewer is for displaying and searching your chosen exports. Where a legal basis is required for support correspondence, it is handling your requested support and our legitimate interest in maintaining the software, subject to applicable law.
Security, children and changes
Use device access controls and appropriate encryption for sensitive exports. Do not open files you do not trust. No software or email service can guarantee absolute security.
The app is a general-purpose archive reader and is not directed specifically at children. We do not knowingly seek children's personal information through support. If you believe such information was sent inappropriately, contact us.
We will update this page if data handling changes and revise the effective date. Material app changes should be reviewed alongside the policy for that version.
