Terms & conditions
Effective date: 9 September 2026
The conditions for using Farooq Chat Viewer and its dedicated information pages.
1. About the software
Farooq Chat Viewer, developed and published by FAROOQ MUGHAL (SMC-PRIVATE) LIMITED (Mohammad Farooq), is an independent Windows application for viewing exported WhatsApp conversations and saved media. It is not affiliated with or endorsed by WhatsApp or Meta. Questions: support@farooqmughal.net.
2. Software license
The project's original source code is provided under the MIT License. That license grants the rights and states the conditions for using, copying, modifying and distributing the covered software. These website terms do not remove rights granted by the MIT License or applicable third-party licenses.
Bundled third-party components remain subject to their own licenses and notices. See the app's Licenses view and the repository's third-party notices. Microsoft Store acquisition and platform services are also subject to Microsoft's applicable terms. Mandatory consumer rights remain unaffected.
3. Your content and permissions
You keep your rights in your exported conversations and media. Opening an export does not transfer ownership to the publisher. Use only files you are entitled to access and share. Respect other participants' privacy, intellectual property and applicable laws. You are responsible for the content and recipients you choose when copying, saving or sharing.
4. What the viewer can and cannot do
The viewer displays supported content present in your export. It cannot guarantee that an export is complete, recover deleted or omitted messages, decrypt WhatsApp account backups, restore a chat into WhatsApp, or synchronize a live account. Dates, localized formats, thumbnails and media playback may vary by export and device.
Keep an independent backup and verify important messages and attachments. Do not rely on the viewer alone as proof of authenticity, completeness or suitability for legal or other critical decisions. Very large archives can require substantial disk space and memory.
5. Privacy and third-party actions
Read the privacy policy for local processing, remembered settings, optional online previews and support correspondence. Opening links, sharing content and using cloud storage involve third parties whose terms and privacy practices apply.
6. Updates and support
Features and supported formats may change in later versions. Support is available through the support page, without a guaranteed response time or promise to implement a requested change. No specific future feature, platform release or update schedule is promised.
7. Warranty and responsibility
To the extent permitted by law, the software is provided “as is,” without warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose or noninfringement, as set out in the MIT License. To the extent permitted by law, the authors and copyright holders are not liable for claims, damages or other liability arising from use of the software. Nothing here excludes liability or consumer remedies that cannot lawfully be excluded.
8. Website use and changes
Use these information pages lawfully and do not interfere with their operation. External links are provided for convenience; the publisher does not control their content or availability. Updated terms will be posted with a revised effective date. Open-source license rights continue under their applicable license.
